SCIENCE INSIGHT: Producing Climate Projections: From the Navier–Stokes Equations to Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

SCIENCE INSIGHT by PEPR Maths-Vives and iMPT
October 15, 3.30 pm – 4.00 pm

Climate modelling relies on mathematical foundations, including the Navier–Stokes equations, which are simplified through physical assumptions and translated into computer code to be run on high-performance computers. It is therefore a highly transdisciplinary endeavour, which can make it difficult for non-experts to understand scientific progress and limitations, as well as the uncertainties that remain.

This session will explore a range of methods currently used to understand the Earth’s climate and to produce information that can help guide societies in adapting to and mitigating climate change.
