SCIENCE INSIGHT: Introducing the Climate Anomalies and Normals service
SCIENCE INSIGHT by EUMETSAT
October 15, 2.30 pm – 3.00 pm
- Frank Kaspar, Head of Climate and Data Analytics, EUMETSAT
In this session, EUMETSAT will present its new Climate Anomalies and Normals (CAN) service, a satellite-based service supporting climate monitoring, the assessment of extremes and climate-service activities. Drawing on more than 40 years of observations, CAN allows users to compare monthly conditions with long-term climate averages through maps, charts, time series and downloadable data, initially covering solar radiation, sunshine duration, soil moisture and sea-ice concentration. Launched as a prototype and developed further through user feedback, the service aims to make authoritative climate information easier to access, explore and use for climate monitoring, adaptation and decision-making.
