Prior experience with AI coding tools is not required. Participants are advised to bring their laptops. Participants are encouraged to participate even without a laptop, as they can team up with others.

Participants will work in teams of 4-5; only one laptop per team is required.

Vibe Coding is a new frontier of science reporting. This hands-on workshop teaches journalists how to use natural language to build functional data tools via AI. Using real-world case studies (including our maritime tracker for protected waters) we’ll show how to create interactive maps, scrapers, and apps without writing a single line of traditional code. We aim to democratize technical storytelling, allowing any reporter to turn raw data into high-impact, visual, and verified investigations.

Andrei Mihai is a science journalist and editor. He is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of ZME Science, a digital publication launched in 2007 that focuses on making scientific research accessible to the general public.

Tibi Puiu

Tibi Puiu is a science journalist and science communicator with a focus on physics, climate, and emerging technologies. He is one of the co-founders of ZME Science.
